With less than a week to go, Victoria’s Twestival team is working very hard to ensure our inaugural Twestival event is a great success!
Over 250 cities around the world are hosting events to promote local charities. Victoria’s Twitter community selected Power to Be – a local organization that provides outdoor education programs for disadvantaged youth.
Power to Be provides:
- people living with a disability year-round access to activities such as kayaking, skiing, rock climbing, gardening and camping;
- multi-day sea-kayaking trips to remote parts of British Columbia for young cancer patient survivors; and
- four year preventive education programs geared to at-risk youth.
Under the very capable direction of founder and visionary Tom Cormode, Power to Be has assisted over 3,400 participants and won several regional and national awards. Over the years they have had to turn many kids away, and Tom believes our support through Twestival will mean more youth can access the program.
All proof we’re supporting a very worthy cause.
All of the Victoria Twestival proceeds will go towards Power to Be.
One important point – although much of the organizing for Twestival has occurred through Twitter, you don’t have to be on Twitter to attend. It’ll be a largely social event with top notch local entertainment and lots of opportunities to network and chat with interesting people. But if you’re at all curious, you’ll have lots of opportunity to find out about Twitter, blogging and social media in general.
Here’s a short video put together by Chris Vleck of Strategic Insanity, to help promote the event:
We’re also very grateful to local business that have stepped up as sponsors: Scott Garman, Rod Phillips of Liquor Plus, and Scott McDonald of Rocky Mountain Soap.
