Four weeks to go and the excitement, energy and enthusiasm is palpable.
You can get a sense of this by reading the twitter feed and blog posts from groups around the world on Twestival. Here’s a smattering:
San Francisco: Don’t forget you can join Team TwestivalSF by donating as little as $5 to http://www.140smiles.org and helping another child smile
Oxford: So we can now start talking about our Cause: Oxfam http://bit.ly/4mvJ5a let’s help them get the first £1000! do spread the word! thx:)
Mumbai: We have Decided To support http://helpachild.in/ for Mumbai Twestival What’s your say? Would you like us to support this NGO?
And it’s like that in over 250 cities (and counting) around the world. It’s still not too late to register a city and get a team together. In fact, if you’re reading this from New Zealand, Twestival has put out a call via Twitter asking if anyone in New Zealand is interested in organizing a local event.
Our own chapter, Twestival Victoria, BC is busy. A core team is actively getting things rolling and are recruiting additional volunteers. We are supporting Power To Be Adventure Therapy

Our charity fundraiser takes place on Friday evening, Sept 11, at the Ambrosia Conference Centre in Victoria. This will be the Social Media event of the season and the biggest live tweeting and blogging event ever held in Victoria. We will be broadcasting the event live to the Internet to provide maximum exposure for Twestival, Power To Be and all of our sponsors.
Check back here for more information, or contact any members of the team by following them on Twitter: Janis Lacouvee, Jose Albis, Chris Burdge, Jason Finnerty, Melanie Wood, Cathy O’Connor, Catherine Novak, Scott Garman and Scott MacDonald.
Similar events will be happening in cities around the world. It’s an opportunity to connect with others in your community, and contribute to a larger social cause. All of the proceeds from these events will go directly to the local not-for-profit selected. Imagine the possibilities. Help us spread the word!!

#YYJTwestival will be a success because people like you get involved and spread the message on Twitter and beyond.
Thank you for all your help. It will be very interesting to see how this compares with traditional fundraising once the event is over. Stay tuned.

Thanks very much for your comment.
This article, from Tech Crunch, compared a traditional fundraising event in London with the first Twestival – also in London: http://tinyurl.com/3qh5qs
Also posted a link to it just now on Twitter.
